QUILT TOP PREPARATION
To prepare your quilt for the long –arm quilter please follow the following steps:
*The quilt top, batting and backing should all be separate.
*Do not pin or baste layers ahead of time.
*Press all seams.
*Mark top edge of the top with a safety pin if it matters which end will be the top of the quilt.
*Remove all loose threads. If there are remaining threads that show through the top , they will show through the lighter fabrics. *Embellishments must be put on after quilting.
*If making scalloped edges, do that after the quilt is quilted
*Make sure the backing is larger than the quilt top by 4-6 inches.
*If you supply your own batting, the batting must be 6 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides. You do not want to come up short on backing or batting. I can’t stress this enough.
*If I am making the binding for you, please send a yard of fabric (any excess will be returned).
I will try to quilt your quilt as pucker free as your piecing will allow. Blocks with a lot of bias edges or pieces, old blocks, blocks not all the same size that have been “eased in”, and rippled borders all create a less optimum surface to quilt by machine. All quilts will be trimmed after quilted unless you tell me not to.
SHIPPING:
If you are shipping your quilt, send all pieces separate, DO NOT BASTE. You may send UPS or by USPS. I will return your quilt for what you insured it for. I do have batting on hand, this will eliminate some weight. Usually a queen size runs $12.00- $15.00. It is safe to send your quilt. I have been doing mail order throughout the US since 1993 and have never had a problem.
